Autoimmune diseases refer to problems with the acquired immune system’s reactions. Immune cells target the body’s own healthy tissues by mistake, signalling the body to attack them. -

The immune system normally guards against germs like bacteria and viruses. When it senses these foreign invaders, it sends out an army of fighter cells to attack them. -

The main role of the immune system is to fight foreign invaders such as bacteria, moulds and viruses. In autoimmune diseases the immune system produces antibodies that attack the body's own cells, tissues and organs, resulting in inflammation and damage. - 
    
    
Autoimmune disorders
There are around 80 different autoimmune disorders ranging in severity from mild to disabling, depending on which system of the body is under attack and to what degree.
